POLICE are seeking assistance to identify a man believed to have been involved in petrol drive-offs and the theft of a car, which was later set alight.
A 2004 black Holden Commodore sedan was stolen from outside a house in Locky Grove, Lyndhurst, on Wednesday 4 August.
The car was found destroyed by fire near the corner of Pound and Thompsons roads, in Clyde North, about 7am on Friday 8 August.
Police believe the car was used in a number of petrol drive-offs between that time.
The first occurred about 10.15am on 5 August at the BP service station, on the Princes Highway in Dandenong.
The car was also involved in a petrol drive-off at 7.45pm on 5 August, at a Woolworths Caltex service station, along Jells Road in Wheelers Hill.
Police would like to speak to a man described as being in his mid-twenties, Caucasian, thin build, 170 centimetres tall, short and dyed red hair and was wearing a shredded blue jumper and grey tracksuit pants.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
