Case of mistaken identity?

POLICE believe it may have been a case of mistaken identity when four men, one armed with a baseball bat, tried to force their way into a Narre Warren house on Sunday.
About 7.20am, four men turned up on the doorstep on a house in Elstar Road and tried to force their way in via the front door.
One of the men smashed a light sensor box off the front wall of the house, police said.
When the occupant presented at the front door, the men made demands to him for cash, before he quickly shut the door and rang triple-zero.
Police said the men then tried to gain entry to the house via the garage, but were unsuccessful and left.
A 33-year-old man was the only person home at the time.
Police said the main offender, who was carrying the baseball bat, was aged between 17 and 20 years old, Caucasian and was wearing a blue shirt.
He was with three other men, all aged about 40 years old and wearing black jackets and beanies.
Police said they had not established a connection between the offenders and victim and believed it could be a case of mistaken identity.
