A WARNEET resident has expressed his anger at the state of the village’s foreshore and the lack of action to clean it up.
David Hirst said the Warneet foreshore in its current state was both an eyesore and a hazard, with wire and star pickets lining the water.
Mr Hirst said he had been contacting the Warneet Foreshore Reserve Committee of Management, as had many other residents, about the problem for years now and nothing had been done.
To reduce erosion on the western shore of the foreshore reserve, the committee installed coir logs where the banks were being eroded.
Mr Hirst said the erosion control had since deteriorated, leaving star pickets and wire all along the foreshore.
“All the material that has broken down and washed out into the sea grass beds and has caused some catastrophe around the boat launching ramp.
“If children ran into the star pickets, they could seriously hurt themselves.”
Mr Hirst said he was told it would all be cleaned up last summer and nothing had been done yet.
“Everyone just keeps passing the buck,” he said.
“While they fail to clean it up, they are also not addressing the issue of erosion.
“Tooradin, Cannons Creek and Blind Bight have all done a tremendous job with their erosion control.
“Nothing seems to be done around Warneet though.”
The News was unable to contact anyone at the Warneet Foreshore Reserve Committee of Management before going press. See next week’s paper for their response.
