How to mend a broken heart?

By JARROD POTTER

Southern Football League and Victorian Amateur Football Association

HEARTBREAK again for Doveton Eagles in SFL Division 2 as another narrow lead slipped through their fingers.
The lead went back and forth at Power Reserve as the Eagles and Bulldogs shared the scoring – but a four goal third term opened up a nine-point lead for the home side.
With Peter Dye drilling five goals – including his 51st goal of the year to extend his lead in SFL goal kicking tables to four – and a trey from Corrie Wilson, the Eagles looked in good form heading into the dire final term.
Highett jumped out of the blocks to kick the final three goals of the match and hold the Eagles goalless in the final stanza. The final score Highett 11.7 (73) taking down the Eagles 9.9 (63).
Doveton Eagles has four matches remaining this year with its last month of the season starting on Saturday against Hampton at Peterson Street Reserve.
SFL – DIVISION 3
The hot-and-cold Falcons showed their true colours on the weekend with a come-from-behind win over South Yarra. Endeavour Hills trailed heading into the final break before holding the Lions goalless in the final term and banging on three of their own to take an 11-point triumph.
Shane Peake snagged four goals for the Falcons while Byron Hoe, Ben Swift and Aaron Brooks continued their strong seasons to date.
Hallam was blown out of the water by Lyndale to the tune of 149 points. On a dud day for the club, Hamish Raymond, Michael Reid, Nathan Pulham and Bryce Neve flew the flag and gave their all.
Hallam faces Black Rock at home while Endeavour Hills hosts SFL Division 3 finals’ contender Lyndale.
VAFA – DIVISION 3
BELTED by the Animals, St Francis Xavier was left to take a 56-point bludgeoning from Emmaus St Leos.
St Francis Xavier remained in the fight til half-time – conceding onto a 18-point buffer at the main change – before the Animals started to fire.
The X-men had only another two goals in them as the visitors stole the show at the college oval to claim the emphatic 15.10 (100) to 7.2 (44) victory.
Tony Butera (2 goals) was the only multiple goal kicker for the X-men while Lucas Day, Jake Abel, Justin Butterfield and Josh Lafranchi were best afield.
Sitting eighth, St Francis Xavier needs wins from here on out and a bit of luck to make finals with its first clash of the run home this weekend against Power House away.
