Scammer tells Telstra tales

POLICE have warned the community to be vigilant about a scam that has targeted a number of casey residents.
Police have received a number of reports about a scammer calling people and claiming to be a Telstra representative.
The person asks the victim to turn their computer on and follow a number of processes.
Casey CIU Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Garry Kear urged the community to check credentials before handing over any personal information.
“I have found when people are contacted by emails or phone calls and are dubious, they are best to check the credentials via alternative internet access before providing any detail or assisting caller,” he said.
“Www.scamwatch.gov.au is the first place people should refer to for any incidents of this nature with reporting mechanisms built into their website.
“Scamwatch is well worth people reviewing to find out current trending scams and cons people attempt in endeavours to illicit access to personal information.”
