Flanigan name enshrined at reserve

THE name of the iconic Devon Meadows’ family the Flanigans will be forever remembered in name at the local footy reserve.
At last week’s Casey Council meeting, councillors decided to name the pavilion at Glover Reserve in Devon Meadows the Flanigan Pavilion.
The honour recognises the services the late Ted and Rob Flanigan and family have given the community, sporting clubs and recreation reserve committee.
Rob (better known as Flano) died in a car accident in September much to the shock of the local community.
His death came just over a month after his father, Devon Meadows Football Club stalwart Ted Flanigan died in August surrounded by his family.
Rob, who was president of the Devon Meadows Recreation Reserve when he passed away, had followed in his father’s footsteps, dedicating much of his time to the football club and reserve.
Mayor Colin Butler said the honour would recognise the whole family, many of whom still dedicated their time to the football club and reserve.
“I’ve known Flano for many years. I went to school with him. He was involved with the recreation reserve committee, footy, cricket and netball clubs. His passing was very sad. He worked very hard for the Devon Meadows community,” Cr Butler said.
Council will also provide a commemorative plaque honouring the achievements of both Rob and Ted Flanigan to be mounted at the reserve.
