Focus on the jab

YOUNG people across Casey have been encouraged to get their cameras rolling and enter the council’s ‘Vaccinate’ short film competition.
Young people living in or enrolled in schools in Casey can enter the City of Casey’s competition by submitting a short film which encourages awareness about the importance of vaccinations.
City of Casey mayor Geoff Ablett said the competition built on the council’s commitment to work with schools in Casey to raise awareness and understanding among young people of the importance of vaccinations in protecting themselves and their community.
“Casey experiences lower levels of youth vaccinations in comparison to the south east metro and Victorian regions, putting our young people at greater risk of contracting vaccine-preventable diseases,” he said.
“Through the competition, we hope to increase the understanding among young people on how important vaccinations are.
“This unique film competition gives young people in Casey the opportunity to not only explore their love of filmmaking, but to also create awareness about the health of young people in their community.
“We ask schools and parents to encourage their students and young people to participate.”
The winning entrant will receive $1000, as well as the opportunity to work with Filmtime Media to professionally re-shoot their film and provide one-on-one tuition.
A second prize, People’s Choice Award, of $500 is also available for the entry with the most ‘likes’ from members of the public.
Entries for the competition close at 5pm on Monday 30 June, and the winner will be announced on International Youth Day in August.
