Walkers horizons set to expand

By BRIDGET COOK

CRANBOURNE Park’s mall walking group will have a lot more ground to cover once the centre’s $110 million redevelopment is complete in 2015.
The group, which has about 120 members, celebrated the announcement of the revamp and 12,500 square metre expansion recently with a special breakfast.
Cranbourne Park’s centre manager Danielle Gunner said the group was very excited about seeing the redevelopment which will include new retailers, upgraded facilities and dining options.
“The majority of the local walkers have watched the centre grow from a paddock, to a supermarket with a few stores, to how the centre sits today,” she said.
“They are eagerly anticipating which new stores we will be welcoming and can’t wait to walk the new expanded mall.”
Established in 2003, the walking group meets twice a week and together the members walk laps of the centre.
Held every Tuesday and Thursday, from 7.45am to 8.45am, the group, led by a qualified YMCA fitness instructor, is free to join. The group welcomes new members of all ages.
Norma Watson, who has been part of the mall walkers group for 11 years, said she enjoyed walking without worrying about the weather.
“It’s a nice safe walking environment for the Cranbourne community,” she said.
Another member of the group, Wilhelmina Kracht, said she enjoyed meeting the group as often as she could.
“We solve the problems of the world and keep each other motivated,” she said.
“We share recipes and coffee after our morning walk.”
