CRANBOURNE South Primary School will receive $48,914 funding as part of the Australian Government’s Community Water Grants Program.
The grant will be used to introduce water tanks for irrigation and toilet flushing, water efficient taps and dual flush toilets.
Works at the school, as well as six other community water projects in the Western Port region, are expected to begin soon, Flinders MP Greg Hunt announced last week.
Groups such as Devon Meadows Primary School, Kooweerup Primary School and the Pearcedale Fire Brigade will also each receive up to $50,000 to harvest rain water, install water saving devices or recycle waste water.
Acting principal Roma McKinnon said that the grants are well needed at the school.
“We haven’t had any water to water our veggie garden.
“It’s looking a little tired and dry at the moment,” Ms McKinnon said.
She said that while the school already promotes wise water use, conservation and recycling and the introduction of the water tanks and more efficient water devices will allow the school to practise what they preach.
