Trials of getting past the post

A FIELD of 65 teams took to the track at Casey Fields in Cranbourne for the first round of the 2014 Victorian HPV Series on Saturday 22 February. Allan Harris from Wonthaggi Secondary College waved the Australian flag signalling the start of the six hour race and riders soon battled it out for position entering their first lap.
Middle Secondary Class was another marginal victory with first place taken out by In Trouble from Girton Grammar School on 132 laps ahead of Gaffa another top-three place for the riders from Victory Christian College who finished five laps clear of third place getters Horton from Drouin Secondary College.
Senior Secondary Class proved an easy win for the riders from Emerald District Education Centre’s Fire Breathing Rubber Duckies taking out first place on 138 laps putting them inside the top 20 overall.
The Open Secondary Class proved to be another successful race won by the riders from St Margaret’s and Berwick Grammar School finishing the six-hour race with an impressive 151 laps putting them in seventh place overall.
In the highly competitive Community Class and it was Mini Me from Platt Racing on 161 laps that maintained a consistent lead to finish while Elite Community Class was a triumphant victory taken out by Trump Trikes from Platt Racing on 169 laps.
With only three entrants in the Open Girls category it was the girls from St Margaret’s and Berwick Grammar with their vehicle Ceto taking out the win on 134 laps.
It was a close race in Veteran Class with Emerald District Education Centre’s Pacemakers finishing in first place on 138 laps.
All the teams which competed in the first round of 2014 of the Victorian HPV Series should be congratulated on their efforts.
Round two will be held in Wonthaggi on 21 and 22 March. The organisers and volunteers would also love to see all teams back at Casey Fields for Round three on 11 October. Entries are now open.
