THOSE looking to honour the Anzacs by commemorating the centenary next year can apply for grants from the Federal Government.
Holt MP Anthony Byrne met with Dandenong Cranbourne RSL Sub-Branch secretary Barry Rogers last week to call on local RSLs, schools, cultural institutions, organisations, sporting clubs and individuals to apply for a grant under the Anzac Centenary Local Grants Program (ACLGP).
Mr Byrne said that proposed projects and events must be directly commemorative of the involvement, service and sacrifice of Australia’s servicemen and women in the World War I.
“Next year’s Anzac centenary will be a special occasion and the grants program provides funding to assist the local community in commemorating the involvement, service and sacrifice of Australia’s servicemen and women in the World War I and the Anzac bond that was forged at Gallipoli in 1915,” he said.
Types of projects eligible under the program including public commemorative events, new World War I memorials or honour boards, restoration of existing memorials or honour boards and the preservation, interpretation and display of World War I wartime and military memorabilia and artefacts.
Relevant school projects including research with a focus on military involvement and social impacts, will also be considered.
The Holt electorate has up to $125,000 available to commemorate the occasion.
