A CRANBOURNE environmental group has been given a grant to continue its work in protecting the Southern Brown Bandicoot.
The Friends of the Royal Botanic Gardens in Cranbourne will share in $4 million from the latest round of the Victorian Coalition Government’s Communities for Nature environmental grants program.
The group received the money to go towards providing habitat protection for the Southern Brown Bandicoot.
South Eastern Metropolitan Region MP Inga Peulich said the grants program supported local community groups by providing grants to complete on-ground works to conserve and enhance their local natural environment.
“It is great news to see so many of the south eastern environmental groups and community organisations receiving grants to fund environmental projects close to home,” she said.
“I congratulate these active community groups on their initiative and commitment to our environment and recommend other organisations throughout the electorate to access this and similar grants programs in the future.”
Minister for Environment and Climate Change Ryan Smith said the nature grants delivered practical and meaningful partnerships between government, community and environmental groups.
“Communities for nature grants directly support local groups to carry out important ecological projects, while contributing to their local community’s environment,” he said.
