SWELTERING heat kept crowd numbers down, but plenty of fun still flourished at the Royal Botanic Gardens in Cranbourne last week for their annual family fun day.
South East Water, in partnership with the gardens and the City of Casey, hosted the annual event on Wednesday 16 January to give families the chance to experience the local gardens and learn more about sustainable living in the home and garden.
There were free activities for the children, didgeridoo workshops, entertainment, a sausage sizzle and workshops for parents to learn how water could be used wisely around their own home and garden.
South East Water general manager of customer and business futures Hamish Reid said the event was about putting the community front and centre in the work they did.
“We see the Family Fun Day as a chance for families to enjoy the beauty of the Botanic Gardens, while learning more about sustainable living and how we can all use our precious water sources wisely,” he said.
Other kids had the right idea by escaping the heat last week at local libraries with some free fun-filled activities.
The Casey-Cardinia Library Corporation hosted free events and activities at all Casey libraries.
Drawing classes, teddy bear picnics, craft and reading activities and reptile encounters were all part of the school holiday fun.
Plenty of children turned out for the Zoo Tales activity at Cranbourne Library on Tuesday, where they read animal stories and made animal masks.
The Pirates of the Candy Beans shows was a popular choice at the Hampton Park Library as well where Captain Jack Spanner and his friends entertained the children with songs, comedy and magic.
