Aged care jobs boost

A NEW Aged Care facility in Lynbrook is expected to generate 115 new jobs and inject millions of dollars into the community.
The proposed retirement village and aged care accommodation, to be located off the South Gippsland Highway, will provide up to 120 beds, 180 villas and an administrative office at a cost of about $65 million.
It is anticipated to create an estimated $4.7 million per year in wages.
The facility has been welcomed by Casey councillors who, at a council meeting on 20 September, passed a motion to change the zoning of the land from a service business use to an aged care/retirement village use.
River Gum Ward councillor Wayne Smith said the facility would go a long way toward solving the crisis of a shortage of aged care beds in Casey.
“The aim of this company is to provide quality aged care. They are not out to make money. It will also bring a number of vital employment opportunities to the city. I hope the process goes through quickly so that construction can start in the near future,” he said.
The amendment to the Lynbrook and Lyndhurst Development Plan will be placed on community exhibition for one month showing the land as ‘proposed retirement village and aged care accommodation’.
