Public foreshore management

COMMUNITY-minded coastal village residents are being invited to join a committee which manages the Tooradin foreshore.
Hastings MP Neale Burgess is encouraging residents to become voluntary members of the Tooradin Foreshore Committee of Management and play an active role in managing the future of the reserve.
Tooradin Foreshore Reserve is a 1.5 hectare coastal strip along Sawtells Inlet between Lyall and Swan streets.
The Department of Environment and Primary Industries establishes committees of managements to conserve and manage public foreshore reserves along the Victorian coastline.
Mr Burgess said the support and dedication of a committee of management was pivotal to the management and future of the foreshore reserves.
“The foreshore has significant regional recreational, tourist and environmental values, and is highly valued by the local residents and visitors alike,” he said.
“Members bring their local knowledge, passion and a range of skills to the committee, ensuring development and conservation projects represent the values and interests of the community and the guiding principles of the Victorian Coastal Strategy.
“Residents with an interest in conserving and managing the coast, knowledge of the local community, finance, and legal or community education skills are encouraged to apply – however no formal skills are required.”
Expressions of interest for the voluntary positions close on 7 February.
