Drivers warned to take care

By Sarah Schwager
POLICE are warning Cranbourne motorists to watch their way on the roads this spring.
The warning from Cranbourne Senior Sergeant Daleen Spicer came as an increase in traffic collisions over the past months recorded an alarming number of serious injuries.
Sen Sgt Spicer said there had been a high fatality rate in the Cranbourne area recently, but the most concerning rate was the number of collisions resulting in serious injuries.
A 51-year-old Hampton Park man was killed and a 22-year-old Cranbourne man left in a coma after a collision in Cranbourne West on 29 August
“There is a high fatality rate but also a very high serious collision rate,” Sen Sgt Spicer said.
She said sometimes those left with a serious injury left even more of an impact not only on their own future but on their family, friends, and society, filling hospital beds or undergoing lengthy rehabilitation.
She said Cranbourne Police would continue its zero tolerance approach to traffic offences.
“If anyone is caught, for instance, speeding, driving in a careless manner, or using a mobile phone, they will be issued with a ticket or taken to court depending on the relevant circumstances,” she said.
Sen Sgt Spicer urged people to be extra cautious on the roads these September holidays and during spring when drizzle on dry roads made them very slippery.
“People will have to adapt their driving style to the conditions,” she said.
