Fair numbers despite weather

By BRIDGET COOK

WET weather has not dampened the spirits of the organisers of the Cranbourne Trackside Community Market and Fair.
The first event was held on Saturday at the Cranbourne Racing Centre, but due to wet weather in the morning almost half of the booked stallholders pulled out of the grand opening.
However, Markets to Market managing director Graham Jackman had vowed to be back bigger and better this week and into the future.
“Unfortunately, we have no control over the weather,” he said.
“While it was a bit disappointing in terms of stall numbers, it was positive that so many buyers still showed up in numbers.
“Majority were sympathetic to the fact that we can’t control the weather and assured us they will be coming back to support what they said was such a great thing for Cranbourne.
“The feedback we got was that this market was long overdue for the area.”
Mr Jackman urged the community to come along each Saturday to the ever expanding weekly market.
“This week, we are hopeful the forecast stays on our side,” he said.
“Bookings for stalls are very solid, and we are expecting those who came last week to return and those who were put off by the weather to come along this week,” he said.
“We will have some great variety in our stalls on offer, so come along and check it out.
“There will be great jewellery, food, fresh fruit and vegies, flowers and remote control hobbies demonstrations and displays.”
The market will run from 8am to 2pm each Saturday at the Cranbourne Racing Centre, Grant Street.
