Thieves hit footy club for the third time

CRANBOURNE Junior Football Club members are outraged after their clubrooms were broken into for the third time this season.
The club has lost a much-needed source of revenue after a large haul of alcohol was stolen from the club on the weekend.
Club president Dieter Leinmueller said thieves had not only taken away from players by stealing the alcohol but had done significant damage to the rooms in the process.
“They’ve jemmied the external door damaging the door itself, the locking mechanism and the frame,” Mr Leinmueller said.
“And to get into the office they have jemmied the door open but in the process snapped the framework and some of the brickwork has come away. They’ve just had no thought at all.”
Cans of UDL, Jim Beam and Johnny Walker and slabs of VB were stolen some time between 6pm on Friday and 9am on Saturday.
An office chair was also stolen, presumably to wheel away the alcohol, Mr Leinmueller said.
“If anyone has seen anything or is offered cheap alcohol please call the police,” he said.
“These things creep into our fund raising. Where we could have provided free meals at a family function, we will now have to charge for it unfortunately.
“We always try to keep our (membership) fees down but if this keeps happening then they’ll have to increase.”
Mr Leinmueller said the thieves had no thought of how much the burglary affected the whole community.
“There are 350 families in the area that are a part of our club that have been robbed of their items,” he said.
“The proceeds would’ve gone directly back into the club. It is very annoying.”
