CRANBOURNE primary students are putting their green thumbs into action to try to create the best water-saving garden in the state.
As part of the Peet Water Saving Garden Competition, kids from Cranbourne West, Courtenay Gardens and Cranbourne Park primary schools are donning their gardening gloves and creative flair to design the ultimate drought resistant garden.
Peet Limited chief executive Brendon Gore said the competition aimed to encourage the children to learn more about the importance of water conservation and to become more aware about water-saving practices.
He said the project also aimed to encourage children to start applying water-saving initiatives at home.
To start the trend each participant will be provided with a water-saving plant to take home.
“Victoria’s water shortage has become one of the state’s most publicly debated and contentious issues,” Mr Gore said.
The top three entries from each of the 23 Victorian schools will be put through their paces at the judging day on 30 August for the chance to win an exclusive school grounds garden makeover.
The winning school will be determined by celebrity guest judge, Melissa King from Channel 9’s Garden Gurus.
