A CRANBOURNE Secondary College student made a pledge on Monday to pursue a positive pathway next year.
As a part of the school’s partnership with the Beacon Foundation, Year-10 students participated in a Pledge Ceremony where they signed a board to show their commitment to entering into further education, training or employment next year.
The students made the pledge in front of a number of representatives from local businesses.
Beacon co-ordinator Lory Arslanian said by signing the charter boards it symbolised a commitment to seek a positive future.
“We, as a school, believe that our students can gain personal success for themselves and their community by pledging to seek out positive opportunities,” she said.
“The Beacon pledge boards will be displayed in the Year 9 and 10 courtyard at the school as a constant reminder and affirmation of the students’ commitment to strive to be their best.”
The school celebrated the ceremony with entertainment from the Year-10 music class and a student dance crew known as Brotherhood.
As part of the celebration, students released balloons in honour of their pledge and enjoyed a barbecue lunch together.
All those who attended were also captivated by the guest speak, Matt Lewis.
“Matt presented an inspirational talk about the choices we make in life,” Ms Arslanian said.
“Matt is a local from Pakenham and he sustained life threatening injuries from a homemade bomb which resulted in a loss of most of his fingers and both of his legs.
“Matt’s messages were well received by our attentive Year 10 audience.”
