A FISH and chip shop owner received a rude awakening at the weekend when he discovered a burglar hiding in his shop.
Police said the owner of Flake on Lurline in Cranbourne, who sleeps in an adjoining unit, was woken at 2.30am on Sunday by a series of loud bangs.
He went down into the shop to find someone crouched near the cash register.
When he confronted the burglar, the burglar escaped through a small hole he had smashed in a glass panel near the rear door.
The owner then chased the burglar for about 100 metres along Bruce Street until he lost sight of him.
Nothing was stolen.
The offender was described as short, male, of slight build, possibly a teenager, wearing dark clothing and a black balaclava.
Anyone with information should contact Detective Senior Constable Mark Wiederhold at Cranbourne CIU on 5991 0661.
