COUNCILLOR Rosalie Crestani failed to be supported in her motion regarding internet filters in public libraries at a council meeting last Tuesday.
While City of Casey council is still waiting to hear back from the Casey-Cardinia Library Corporation regarding the filters, Cr Crestani asked that the council write another letter reaffirming its opinion that they should be introduced.
At a council meeting late last month, Cr Crestani raised the issue that none of the Casey-Cardinia libraries use filters, and computer users are able to access any site.
The Casey-Cardinia Library Corporation is still waiting to get a report returned from its officers, and no other councillor supported Cr Crestani in her motion to write another letter.
Both councillor Moorland and Smith opposed Cr Crestani’s motion, with Cr Moorland saying that while he supported the use of filters, the library have “done exactly what we asked them to do”, and “we must have trust in the board”.
Cr Smith agreed. “Cr Moorland took the words straight out of my mouth,” he said.
Cr Aziz put forward an alternative motion which invited the library, as well as the Cardinia Shire Council, to participate in a discussion regarding the issue.
City of Casey council is still waiting for a response form the Casey-Cardinia Library Corporation’s board.
