Gusty winds wreak havoc

By BRIDGET SCOTT

WINDS wreaked havoc and caused a busy night for members of the Narre Warren SES on Monday.
Lynbrook and Tooradin were among those areas which received high winds, reaching peak gusts of around 100km/h.
A Deavon Meadows couple were shocked to wake up and find trees spread far and wide across their property, including their drive way, which prevented them from accessing the road until it was cleared.
Member from the Narre Warren SES Nikky Tanner described Monday as ’a big night’, and said calls started coming in around 11.30pm, and were still being taken on Tuesday morning.
In Lynbrook, a tree threatened a train line, while collapsed trees were reported at the corner of North Road and East Road in Tooradin.
Ms Tanner warned drivers to be cautious during these dangerous weather conditions.
“Be aware of your surroundings and the whereabouts of trees,” she said.
“Residents know their area, but be aware of what the trees are doing.”
The SES member also urged the community to report trees before it’s too late.
“If they look frayed and daggered, think about cutting them down,” she said.
“Rather than learning the hard way.”
