TO say Garry Rogers spends his every waking moment dealing with horsepower in one form or another may involve some poetic license … but there is no doubting the popular Rogers enjoys his substantial interests in the sports of both harness and motor racing.
On Saturday night at Cranbourne, Three Gold Bars gave Rogers another winner for the season when she saluted in the opening event on the program the Rapidvite 3YO Pace.
The daughter of leading sire Mach Three has been sparingly raced this season but was expected to produce a forward showing at Cranbourne after solid trial form and a handy first-up effort at Shepparton earlier this month.
Given time to settle by leading reinsman Gavin Lang, Three Gold Bars landed four back in the outside running line from her second row draw, while second elect Artsitica Uno set a solid tempo at the head of affairs. With a lap to travel Lang sent Three Gold Bars on a searching three-wide move and she moved to within a length of the leaders on the final bend.
Three Gold Bars dug deep in the concluding stages to overhaul Artistica Uno and then withstood a late dive from Greenough who snuck through in the sprint-lane to grab second.
A winner of four races from just 10 lifetime starts, Three Gold Bars was bred by Rogers and is prepared at Longwarry by Michael Hughes.
The pair has also combined in recent weeks to produce two-year-old Call Me Bond who has made a promising start in his freshman season, with two wins from five starts.
Rogers has enjoyed a mixed season on the V8 Supercar circuit with his team driver Scott McLaughlin sitting just outside the top 10 drivers on the current championship points tally.
Rogers runs two cars on the circuit under the Garry Rogers Motorsport banner and was in Queensland on Saturday night searching for another podium finish after a recent success at Townsville in race 23 of the series.
