THE Cranbourne Library is the place to be for teens with the recent addition of three Xbox360s, two PlayStation3s and a casual lounge.
Casey councillor Wayne Smith officially launched the gaming space last Wednesday on behalf of the Casey-Cardinia Library Corporation board.
Cr Smith said the gaming console area was the result of the library’s recent community partnership with Lyndhurst Secondary College students.
“A group of 15 students from the college attended a series of workshops at Cranbourne Library to discuss library services for teenagers, and to develop a survey for obtaining information from fellow students,” Cr Smith said.
“As the students requested, the library has become a more vibrant space with casual lounge furniture to encourage everyone to relax and enjoy their library.”
Cranbourne Library chief executive Peter Carter said the gaming console area would help ensure the library remained appealing to the Casey community. “Public libraries have always had to move with the changing needs and demands of their communities: those that don’t are doomed to wither and serve a diminishing user base,” he said.
