Kids served up food for thought

CARROT cars ridden by potato people zoomed around Hampton Park Library over the school holidays.
Local kids used also sorts of vegie treats to make some exciting creations.
Senior officer at the library Carol Bathie said the activity, part of a holiday program for seven to 12 year olds, taught the kids all sorts of weird and wonderful facts and figures about vegetables.
They then did a quiz to test what they had learnt before making their fabulous vegie creations using potatoes, carrots, apples, pears and lemons.
“There were racing cars made out of carrots, faces made out of potatoes,” Ms Bathie said.
“One girl made a decorative and beautiful piece that looked like some sort of flying object, which she then named.”
The children also read The Potato People, which told the story of a child who went to his grandma’s house and made potato people that then grew roots and created hundreds more potatoes in the compost.
