Police investigate car bomb

By LIA SPENCER

A CAR was blown up and house windows were shattered in a suspected bomb incident last week.
Emergency services were called to Elstar Road, Narre Warren, about 11.30pm on Wednesday where a Ford Territory, which was parked on the nature strip, exploded.
A number of windows of surrounded houses were damaged as a result of the explosion.
Neighbour Stephen Rowe said he heard the bang and thought a gas tank had exploded.
“I heard the bang and then a picture frame fell from the wall and hit my on the head,” Mr Rowe said.
Mr Ferguson said his house shook from the blast.
“I thought it was an earth tremor,” he said.
“I am surprised no-one was injured.”
The two said they lived in a quiet street and were surprised by the incident.
“It’s pretty scary stuff,” Mr Rowe said.
Arson Squad Detective Senior Constable Jim Gogorossis said investigators have yet to determine what device caused the blast but were treating the incident as suspicious.
“It’s too early to say if the house was targeted,” Det Sen Con Gogorossis said.
“Everything inside the vehicle has been blown in or out. The young people inside are shaken and concerned. It’s extremely lucky there were no passerby’s or people standing close to their window at the time (of the blast). It’s very thoughtless and dangerous.”
The Bomb Response Unit cleared the scene and police and an arson chemist is investigating.
Police are appealing for witnesses and anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or visit www.crimestoppers.com.au
