Witnesses sought on kidnap attempt

POLICE are seeking information about an attempted abduction in Cranbourne yesterday where a stranger claimed some else’s child was hers.
Casey Crime Investigation Unit detectives are investigating reports of the attempted abduction which occurred at a supermarket on Thompsons Road, Cranbourne about 5pm.
Investigators have been told a 25-year-old woman was shopping at a supermarket when she noticed a woman speaking to her three children.
The woman told the mother that she believed one of the children was hers.
A short time later, the mother saw the stranger pick up her youngest child, a four-year-old, in the toy aisle, police said.
When the mother challenged her, the woman put the toddler down and left.
Police are investigating and are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or any suspicious activity in the area to come forward and assist them in their investigation.
The woman police wish to speak to is described as being about 170cm tall with a thin build and dark hair.
She was wearing a pink jumper and dark pants at the time of the incident.
Anyone with any information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
