Charity beyond the hammer

By BRIDGET COOK

A CRANBOURNE resident has scored a new house and some good karma after purchasing the Charity Auction House in Clyde on Good Friday.
Henley Properties and Villawood Properties donated a house in the Pasadena estate to be auctioned off for The Royal Children’s Hospital Good Friday Appeal.
The Charity Auction House went under the hammer on Friday at a no reserve auction and sold for $500,000 to a Cranbourne resident, who asked to remain anonymous.
About 1000 people attended the auction, packing the streets to cheer on the bidders as they battled it out to be crowned the new owners of this year’s home.
It was the 20th year Henley’s tradespeople and suppliers have come together to build a brand new, double-storey, 8-star energy rated home, the Sahara Q2, with Villawood Properties donating the block of land.
Good Friday Appeal executive director Deborah Hallmark said initiatives such as the Charity Auction House reflected the overwhelming kindness and generosity of Victorian households and businesses throughout the appeal.
“We are very grateful for the continuing support of these two wonderful companies and their hard working subcontractors and suppliers,” she said.
“The charity house auction is always a very special part of the Good Friday Appeal.
“Congratulations to the lucky buyer.”
Henley has been involved in the Good Friday Appeal for 20 years, raising more than $11.3 million to date.
Henley philanthropy manager Nicole Nightingale said the builder was thrilled to be able to celebrate its 20th year anniversary of involvement with the appeal with such a great auction result.
“ This project is made possible every year by the countless trades people, suppliers and staff of Henley, who every year for the past 20 years have come together and donated their time and effort to build beautiful houses for The Royal Children’s Hospital,” she said.
“I’d like to thank each and every one of the contributors to the auction house,” she said.
