Support shave call

CASEY residents are being urged to attend World’s Greatest Shave public events in the community and help support an important cause.
Cut 2 Impress Hair Salon in Cranbourne West is taking part in the fundraising event this Saturday with all proceeds going to the Leukaemia Foundation, which will fund patient support services and cutting-edge blood cancer research.
Hairdresser Linda Caldecoat said local resident Cathy Deacey approached them about a month ago to shave her hair for the event.
“We agreed and decided to turn it into a big event.
“We also had a little boy come in here and he was telling about his friend who has leukemia.
“It really put us into a good mode to get this event going and make it bigger.”
Between 2 and 4pm in Saturday, the salon will be shaving people’s heads for $16 and doing spray colour for $5.
The hairdressers will also be donating their wages from the day.
There will also be raffle tickets available for a gold coin with donated local prizes.
Leukaemia Foundation Victoria general manager Stephanie Hechenberger said every year more than 2500 Victorians were expected to be diagnosed with leukaemia, lymphoma or myeloma.
“Blood cancer is devastating,” she said.
“In acute cases, treatment can begin within 24 hours of diagnosis.
“For those living in regional areas, it can mean leaving work, school and family and relocating to the city, adding to the shock and emotional turmoil of the diagnosis.
“The World’s Greatest Shave is the Leukaemia Foundation’s most important fundraising event, providing vital funds for the Leukaemia Foundation’s important work and help lessen the impact for people affected by blood cancer.
“Money raised also supports vital ongoing blood cancer research. Research is improving survival rates, but blood cancer is still Australia’s biggest cancer killer after lung cancer, claiming a life every two hours.”
Cut 2 Impress Hair Salon is located at Cranbourne West Shopping Centre, Corner Monahans Road and Duff Street.
For further details call the salon on 5995 9889.
