ABOUT 60 new jobs have been created in Casey thanks to the opening of a Woolworths in Lyndhurst.
The store welcomed it first customers last week when the Marriot Waters Shopping Centre, developed by Villawood Properties, officially opened on Wednesday 6 February.
The store is just one of many shops at the new centre with others including Dan Murphy, Aldi, Subway, Bakers Delight, Nandos and Domino’s Pizza, a pharmacy, medical centre and speciality stores including a beauty salon, dry cleaners, take away stores and a newsagent.
Woolworths store manager Aaron Nash said the supermarket itself would employ 90 people in the Marriot Waters store, with 60 positions new to the company and Casey.
“The opening of the new Woolies is a landmark in the development of the burgeoning Marriott Waters community and we look forward to becoming a hub for local residents,” he said.
Villawood Properties executive director Tony Johnson said that the launch of the Marriott Waters Shopping Centre was the start of a blockbuster 2013 for Villawood and he was very excited to officially open the doors to the new shopping centre last week.
“Until now, Marriot Waters’s residents and the local community have had to get in their cars and travel to Cranbourne or Lynbrook to do their shopping,” he said.
“Now, just a short walk down the road, is a brand new shopping centre.”
To celebrate the opening, a family fun day was held at the new centre on Saturday with entertainment, activities and giveaways on offer.
