THE sounds of singing and dance are emanating from Cranbourne Secondary College’s halls as students prepare for the production of a colourful favourite.
Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat will open at the school next week after months of strenuous preparation from students across all year levels.
Dance teacher Tess Appleby said she and drama teacher Tammy Ball had decided to bring the biblical story and musical theatre production written by Andrew Lloyd Weber and Tim Rice to Cranbourne.
The teachers have been busily working on the roles and choreography with the students along with the school’s music teachers.
Year 11’s Ben Peake will take the lead role and the cast will be joined by students from Cranbourne West Primary School who will be in the choir.
“The kids have worked really hard,” Ms Appleby said. “It has mostly been in their own time that they have been rehearsing. They are probably exhausted by now but they are definitely looking forward to getting on stage.”
She said the production came from an old biblical story about Jacob and his sons, and Joseph, the favourite son’s journey through childhood into late adulthood.
“It is quite a funny play. The music works to lighten up the story,” she said.
The production runs on Tuesday 29, Wednesday 30 and Thursday 31 May at 7pm.
Tickets are $10 and can be bought through the school on 5996 3544 or at the door.
