Water grants on tap, says La Trobe MP

LOCAL schools and groups can apply for funding to help save water.
Water saving, recycling and treatment projects that demonstrate community involvement and a clear public benefit are eligible for funding of up to $50,000.
Federal La Trobe MP Jason Wood urged sporting clubs, schools, service clubs, local government, and other community organisations to apply for a Community Water Grant.
“Local projects in La Trobe have been very successful in the past and I look forward to seeing many more applications again this year,” Mr Wood said.
“The program encourages better water use and improvements in water health and quality through practical on-the-ground projects, such as reducing pollutants reaching our streams, and water recycling and efficiency initiatives.”
Applicants and projects that meet special eligibility criteria can also apply for a larger grant of between $100,000 and $250,000.
“Community Water Grant projects promote wise water use and community engagement and awareness about water efficiency and conservation, water re-use and recycling and water health,” Mr Wood said.
Mr Wood encouraged all La Trobe groups to help protect the nation’s water supplies.
Application forms, guidelines and information session details are available from www.australia.gov.au/communitywatergrants or by phoning 1800 780 730.
Applications close on 4 July 2007.
