Broadband a fast issue in Casey

MANY areas of Casey still do not have access to broadband Internet.
To address the issue, Casey Council is inviting Telstra senior officials to address a planning committee meeting on a broadband rollout in the municipality.
Councillor Rob Wilson said broadband was still an issue in Casey, with parts of his ward, including areas of Endeavour Hills and Narre Warren South, still unable to obtain high-speed Internet access.
“Broadband is an economic driver. It is important for our students as our future economic leaders to be able to access,” he said.
Councillor Janet Halsall said she was horrified when it was recently revealed that Australia ranked 17th in the world in terms of broadband speed and access.
However, she said she was concerned inviting Telstra to speak could make the issue quite political.
The Federal Government and the Opposition have recently been trying to outdo each other on funding to address the issue, and this could be a key item in the upcoming federal election.
Deputy mayor Kevin Bradford encouraged Casey residents to let the council know if they weren’t able to get broadband Internet access at its Broadband Internet Register on www.casey.vic.gov.au/broadbandregister/
