Drivers urged to check first

CASEY drivers have been asked to check the guidelines before applying to have a low-level infringement waived.
Last month, Victoria Police issued new guidelines regarding speed camera infringements allowing motorists who receive a low-level infringement of under 10km/h over the speed limit to apply for an official warning if they have not received an infringement in the previous two years.
Acting Assistant Commissioner (Traffic and Transport) Shane Patton said the changes were designed to make the system fairer for good drivers but people need to be aware of the guidelines.
“The Traffic Camera Office (TCO) has received an extremely high number of requests for official warnings since the announcement and some of these are significantly dated,” Mr Patton said.
“The process does not apply to those who have already paid their infringement fine and the change will effectively apply to those who receive a low level fine from 14 March on.”
Changes were also made to the enforcement of multiple speed camera infringements issued to drivers detected at low speeds within certain freeway/highway zones.
Motorists are urged to check the Victoria Police website before making an application in writing to the TCO. See www.police.vic.gov.au/content.asp?Document_ID=10369.
