PEOPLE of all abilities are encouraged to pick up a racquet and ball in Casey.
The City of Casey has been working with local tennis clubs to provide tennis lessons especially for people with a disability. The council’s arts and leisure manager Robyn Bowen said there were already four tennis clubs in Casey which had the resources to provide low-cost lessons and assistance for beginners, to learn the basics and practise new skills. “Casey Fields Tennis Club also has courts for wheelchair tennis, so there is a range of opportunities for children and adults of all abilities to get some exercise and have fun,” she said.
Council must assist clubs through the Sport and Recreation Victoria’s Access for All Abilities program to become inclusive and accessible to people with a disability. Fountain Gate Tennis Club, Casey Fields Tennis Centre, Devon Meadows Tennis Club and Doveton Tennis Club all now offer tennis lessons to people with a disability. Groups or individuals with a disability interested in playing tennis should register their interest with the City of Casey Disability Leisure Officer Barbra Sheppard on 9705 5200, TTY: 9705 5568 (Telephone Typewriter) or TIS: 131450 (Translating and Interpreting Services).
