FOUR Cranbourne teachers are now true blue Aussies.
Eileen Selfridge, Margaret Williams, Patricia Ellis and Martin McGrath, all teachers at St Peter’s College and originally from the UK, became Australian citizens at a special ceremony at the school on Friday.
Over two days, 191 people in Victoria received Australian Citizenships, 52 in the City of Casey.
The ceremony, which was presided over by the State Director of the Department of Immigration and Multicultural and Indigenous affairs, John Williams, marked the final stage in the teachers’ decision to become “new Australians”.
Federal MP John Cobb, the Minister for Citizenship and Multicultural Affairs, said: “Choosing to become an Australian citizen is an important expression of loyalty and commitment to our country.”
He also expressed his gratitude to migrants and refugees for helping Australian society to become enriched by the diverse culture, language and customs they had brought from all parts of the globe.
The four Cranbourne teachers join the 3.5 million people who have become Australian citizens since 1949.
