Scam not worth the paper its written on

CRANBOURNE police are warning people not to be fooled by a scam circulating in letterboxes.
Dubbed the ‘five-cent scam’ by police, recipients are sent a five-page letter with a five-cent coin taped to the first page.
The letter encourages people to send $10 cash to an anonymous address and forward the letter to 200 homes out of the telephone directory.
Cranbourne Constable Lisa Carroll said the names of the people who had provided testaments weren’t real and police had checked all the names and addresses on the list and found they did not match.
“This is a scam. The people aren’t real,” she said.
“If you receive this letter, ignore it and throw it in the bin.”
The letter was sent by someone called David Rhodes who had apparently made millions of dollars through sending out the letters.
Const Carroll said she was handed the letter by an elderly gentleman unsure whether it was real.
It was addressed ‘to the homeowner’.
