Woman fights off intruder

– Sarah Schwager
A HAMPTON Park woman may be scarred for life after a vicious attack as she slept in her own bed.
Cranbourne police said the 21-year-old woman woke up at 10.30pm on Saturday with a man on top of her with his hand over her mouth.
Police said the man tried to choke her but the woman fought back.
She grabbed a baseball bat she kept by her bed, but the man wrestled it off her and struck her with the butt of the bat.
The woman then kicked the man off the bed and he fled through a sliding door at the back of the house.
Police were called to the Huntington Drive house and said the woman was extremely traumatised.
She had a bloody nose, bloody lip, swelling to her left cheek and marks around her neck.
The woman had come home at 9.30pm and gone straight to bed.
Police said the offender had not been identified as he was wearing a balaclava.
They suspect the man gained entry to the house through the sliding door.
Police said the woman would be seeking counselling as well as medical attention.
Anyone with information about the attack is urged to contact Senior Constable Tim Gleeson at Cranbourne CIU or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
