AN elderly Cranbourne couple suffered minor injuries after their car and a truck collided at the notorious Hallam Road and Pound Road intersection on Saturday.
Police said the tip truck flipped on its side on impact, dumping a load of excavator buckets on the road at about 8am.
The intersection was blocked for several hours as CFA crews from Hampton Park, Hallam and Dandenong cleared a large amount of diesel fuel that had leaked from the truck off the road.
The driver of the car, a man in his 80s, and his female passenger, also in her 80s, were taken to the Dandenong Hospital.
The driver of the tip truck, a Berwick man in his 50s, walked away with a few scratches.
Senior Constable Karen Davies said the couple was lucky to escape serious injury after the truck rolled over their car bonnet.
“Just a few seconds later and it could have been a very different story.
“Drivers need to be aware of what’s going on around them and be alert on the road at all times,” she said.
