A CRANBOURNE North pensioner was horrified last week to discover thieves had taken garden hoses and plants from his front yard.
Alan Kent, 66, said he could not understand why someone would take the items, especially after tough new water restrictions came into effect at the beginning of the year.
Two hoses and two plants were ripped up from the Lawless Drive home some time between Wednesday night and Friday last week while Mr Kent was at home.
“They would have had to come right to the house to take the things. One of the hoses was still attached to the tap,” he said.
He said he did not think it would be an angry neighbour who would have taken the items.
“The neighbours are really friendly. They always keep a watch on the property if my wife and I are away,” he said.
Nor did Mr Kent think it was a payback for failing to follow water restrictions as he had been very careful.
“I have been using the water from the washing machine to water the garden,” he said.
“I only water on the days you’re allowed. Once I got mixed up on the times and watered at 7.30pm instead of 8pm but that was just an accident.”
In another green thumbed incident, Cranbourne’s Chisholm Institute of TAFE campus was broken into also some time between Wednesday and Friday morning last week.
In this incident 70 tropical plants were stolen from the TAFE.
It was the second incident at the campus recently, with power tools also stolen.
