Thieves target diggers

By Sarah Schwager
POLICE are on the lookout for a digger stolen in Cranbourne, the second in the space of three weeks.
A Kanga digger hooked onto a trailer was taken from Better Rentals early on Monday morning.
Senior Constable Fernando Cartagena from Cranbourne CIU said a vehicle reversed into the gates of the company on the corner of South Gippsland Highway and Bowen Road.
They then hooked up the trailer, which held the digger worth $13,000.
The digger is green with the registration plate F44 725, had Better Rentals stickers on it, and was attached to a green 6×4 trailer with a ramp on the back.
The theft took place some time between 12am and 7am on Monday.
Just before Christmas another Kanga trench digger was stolen from a building site in Hallam Road, Hampton Park, where a Liquorland store was under construction.
The thieves forced entry into the site to steal the machine, worth $30,000.
The digger had been modified to operate on gas and had been fitted with two large gas tanks, one on each side.
It also had TRUMP written on either side of the forks.
It was stolen some time between 16 and 18 December.
Anyone with information about either theft is urged to contact Senior Constable Cartagena at Cranbourne CIU on 5991 0661 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
