Tara chases a national goal

NETBALL star Tara Cecil left for the Red Centre this week to show Australia what she’s made of.
The gradesix student from Cranbourne West Primary School departed Melbourne on Sunday for the scorching sun of Alice Springs, where she will represent Victoria in the weeklong VPSSA School Sport Australia Netball Exchange.
Tara, 11, was selected from thousands of talented young hopefuls from both country and metropolitan primary schools to participate in the prestigious tournament.
Tara undertook a gruelling series of tryouts and training sessions to make the Victorian squad, impressing selectors with her natural talent.
Her mum Julie Cecil began a fundraising campaign in July to help fund Tara’s trip, assisted by the primary school and local community.
Mayfield Ward councillor Kevin Bradford was also happy to lend a hand, donating $200 from ward funds toward the cost of the airfare last week.
“I think it’s good to encourage young people to pursue their dreams in the sporting arena and I wish Tara the best of luck,” he said.
