Innovative estate

A CRANBOURNE East estate has won its second award this year for environmental excellence.
The Hunt Club was awarded the prestigious award from the Urban Development Institute of Australia – Victoria (UDIA) on Friday.
The award recognises the use of research, innovation, design and construction techniques to make a significant contribution to conservation and environmental impact.
In August this year, The Hunt Club also won a Housing Industry Association (HIA) Greensmart Award.
Terry Dooling, The Hunt Club development manager, said the award was a great honour and a marvellous recognition of the wide range of environmental features included in The Hunt Club estate.
“At The Hunt Club we have incorporated many conservation features into the development including a revegetation program of a Melaleuca forest,” Mr Dooling said.
“The Melaleuca forest, which is located in the new 4.5 hectare Broad Oak wetlands, is currently undergoing a major revegetation program that will protect this valuable plant species for future generations.”
Other environmental milestones include the conservation of heritage trees, a network of parks and wetlands which capture and treat stormwater before it is released into local creeks, the use of energy-efficient street lighting and extensive street tree plantings.
The estate also includes the provision of recycled water for use in residents’ homes for outside and toilet flushing purposes as well as irrigation for open spaces.
“We are extremely proud that by implementing a wide range of environmentally beneficial measures into The Hunt Club that we have not only created a better community for our residents but that we have been recognised for our efforts by our peers,” Mr Dooling said.
