THE annual Peninsula Toy Run will set off next week delivering toys and food to the needy.
In the meantime the charity is calling for people to bring along donations to make the fundraising event a success.
Pearcedale resident and Peninsula Toy Run organiser John Smollen said all donations would go to Peninsula-based charities.
“It is amazing how this small gesture brings so much happiness to these families,” he said.
The toy run is not a one-day affair for Mr Smollen who works tirelessly throughout the year raising funds to buy food and toys to donate.
This year organisers are expecting 300 bikes and even more riders, who will leave from the Frankston Pier and ride to Rosebud Secondary College via Mornington.
All riders are asked to bring along packaged and canned food or unwrapped new toys and there will be a prize for best decorated bike and rider.
“Much of the credit must go to our motorcyclists who take part in toy runs all over the state,” Mr Smollen said.
People attending the event can also donate.
All donations will go to Peninsula-based charities.
Riders can assemble from 8am on Saturday, 2 December at the pier and will leave at 9.30am.
A free sausage sizzle will be held afterwards at Dromana Reserve.
Inquiries can be made to John Smollen on 5978 6280.
