A NARRE Warren South girl has been awarded Navy Cadet of the Year.
Cadet Leading Seaman Leanne Impey, who is a cadet in the High School Australian Navy Cadet Unit at Hampton Park Secondary College, received the trophy from Dandenong RSL at a recent President’s Award Night.
The 16-year-old, a year 10 student at Narre Warren South P-12 College, has been involved in the cadets for four years and has quickly moved through the ranks.
Leanne’s mother Lorraine Impey said she was very proud of her daughter.
“It is something she is passionate about. Her whole life revolves around it,” Mrs Impey said.
She said Leanne was already planning a future career in the Navy.
Leanne’s commanding officer Lieutenant Steven Silestean said Leanne was an excellent choice for the award.
“She shows respect for her chain of command, has excellent dress and bearing, and shows leadership potential,” Mr Silestean said.
“I am very proud of her efforts and achievements, as is the whole unit.”
