Mulch makes it easier to be green

CASEY residents are being encouraged to give their gardens a boost with a discounted layer of mulch or compost.
The garden cover will be available from three different outlets throughout the city with the first few buyers of mulch at each outlet entitled to a free or discounted delivery to their house.
The composts and mulches are manufactured locally to high quality standards by professional composters using national specifications.
The mulch will be made from green waste collected by local councils from residents’ green bins.
Casey mayor Kevin Bradford said the offer was a great initiative for local residents to experience and invest in an environmentally sustainable product at a reduced cost.
“The program is an excellent example of closing the loop by returning our green waste to our garden plants as high quality mulch and compost,” Cr Bradford said.
Residents can go to Kennards Garden and Building Supplies in Narre Warren, Camms Road Garden Supplies in Cranbourne and Kennedy’s Cranbourne for their discounted mulch and compost.
Mulches and composts provide several benefits to a garden, including reducing moisture loss and supplying nutrients and carbon to the soil.
