Cranbourne Rotary president Malcolm Wells, Bruce Peterson, Cranbourne Community Centre manager Margaret O’Callaghan, Ian Symons and Bill Goodall are eagerly awaiting the opening of a new community workshop.
HOBBY enthusiasts will soon be able to share ideas with each other as the construction on a community workshop in Cranbourne nears completion.
Members from the Rotary Club of Cranbourne have been working on the project for most of the year and their dreams will soon become a reality when the workshop is officially opened next month.
The workshop is being built next to the Cranbourne Community Centre and will be managed by staff from the complex.
Rotary president Malcolm Wells said the establishment of the workshop would provide a vital and much-needed facility for the people of Cranbourne.
“Other communities have demonstrated the value of having some sort of shed where people meet with others and enjoy dabbling in their favourite practical hobby,” Mr Wells said.
The building site at Vale Park Drive will be a hive of activity over the next few weeks with Rotarians undertaking a series of working bees to complete the painting and fitting out prior to the official opening on 9 November.
“We are delighted the Cranbourne Community Centre and the City of Casey have made the site available and will manage the facility when it is completed,” Mr Wells said.
Community centre manager Margaret O’Callaghan said it would be a dream come true when the workshop finally opens.
“It will allow us to enhance and supplement our range of programs. We also want to see it used by hobby or interest groups that might need a workshop environment,” Ms O’Callaghan said.
The cost of establishing the centre has been shared – with Casey Council, the Rotary Club of Cranbourne, Department of Human Services and the Cranbourne Community Centre all contributing towards the project.
However, Rotary project coordinator Bruce Peterson said they were still hoping for other organisations to jump on board and help out financially.
“Businesses or individuals that are prepared to buy a brick for a nominal $20, or several bricks, will be acknowledged as a sponsor of the project,” Mr Peterson said.
