MOTORCYCLISTS riding illegally could face some hefty fines in the coming weeks.
Cranbourne police, along with Casey Council, will be conducting an operation across the Cranbourne area targeting motorbike riders doing the wrong thing.
Acting Sergeant Terry Rowlands said police would work with council officers to conduct the operation, called Operation Powerline, as much of the illegal activity occurs around the transmission area. He said the illegal behaviour was fairly widespread, particularly on weekends.
“Police are targeting the illegal riding of motorcycles in reserve and recreation areas,” he said.
He also highlighted that like recent hoon legislation, Casey Council had the power to seize bikes ridden illegally.
“We are working in conjunction with council. Hoons could face losing their bikes.”
Fines for riding illegally range from $118 to $430 depending on the size of the motorbike.
