Youngsters mark music ages

HAMPTON Park Primary School students explored music from the more primitive times of the caveman to the hairspray and ra-ra skirts of the 1980s.
The school’s senior school concert Music Through the Ages featured students from grades three to six dancing to a particular time in music history.
The children also performed a song with actions in the concert at the Cardinia Cultural Centre in Pakenham.
Before each grade’s performance, two children read out a commentary about that period in music.
The school choir also sang two songs led by music teacher Leonie Nugent.
The school also showcased students who had been having keyboard lessons during the year.
Assistant principal Connie vanderVoort said the night was a huge success and the feedback had been great with the audience commenting that the night was fabulous and they were very proud of their children.
“There was a great buzz throughout the night,” she said. “Many of our students have never performed on stage before.”
The senior school concert is held every second year with students in grades prep to two taking the alternate years.
